The management of space, the play of light and shadow, and his sense of scenography give a singular poetry and abstraction to the architecture of Luis Barragán (1902-1988). In the wake of the modernity that he invented, both timeless and typically Mexican in color and materials, three generations of architects provide answers, adapted to their country, on the problem of the relationships between modernity and tradition, aesthetics and functionality, public space and private space. The study of the main achievements of fourteen contemporary architects allows us to judge the vitality and diversity of a practice, which responds to the challenges of the time without renouncing a very strong identity. From the Corbusean expressionism of González de León, to the internationalism of TEN Arquitectos, via the colorist metaphysics of Legoretta, all have managed to maintain a remarkable conceptual, formal and stylistic quality in the Mexican context of unbridled real estate speculation.
